The Cities of Pittsburgh, San Leandro and Detroit are rapidly becoming models for building maker cities. We will explore the strategy and tactics that Sprout Fund has developed to help grow the innovation ecosystem in Pittsburgh and the underlying mechanics of how San Leandro has bolstered it's identity as a Maker City from the perspective of the city's Chief Innovation Officer. 3D Printer manufacturer, Type A machines, will convey what attracted their organization to relocate to San Leandro to develop their start-up ecosystem as the Bay Area Advanced Manufacturing Cluster. Detroit is revitalizing itself through community, based on the collaboration of entrepreneurs, startups and local government. We will explore how a growing number of cities are starting to share best practices for civic participation and economic development through open innovation systems and where this movement is heading in the future.
